Hervey Bay Fishing

The Wide Bay area provides a fishermans smorgasbord. Hundreds of fish types live and breed in the rivers and protected waterways of the area. The southern beginning of the Great Barrier Reef and significant coral growth areas extend the fish range to include most tropical species such as Coral Trout, Red Emperor , Tailor , and Barramundi.

Take a stroll down to any Hervey Bay sandy beach, wade in a little past your ankles, and cast out with a light line.The Whiting are savage (you almost have to hide to put your bait on), and Whiting fillets are one of the sweetest, most delicate of fish dishes.

Game fishing trips are also available in this area. The catches are excellent, and prices are still much cheaper than those you will encounter at the high profile destinations.

Take Care when Rock Fishing

Rock fishing is one of the most dangerous sports on the face of the earth! Quite a statement but unfortunately true! More than 70 people, about eight per year, have died while rock fishing over the past decade. Compare that to the last time you heard of a formula one driver dying or a high speed slalom skier coming to grief?

The source of all these deaths is the sea and mans desire to fish regardless of the conditions. To go even further? Harry Parsons, the Commander of the Port Jackson flotilla of the AVC says many coastal drowning deaths can be attributed to poor preparation and foolishness. Although out of our Fraser Coast area, what the Commander relays is true but not in the Fishing Hervey Bay area.
